Things are changing at the Recycle Center as we are no longer shipping recyclables to the hub at Anthony but at shipping to Integrated Plastics Solutions in El Dorado. By making this change, we are able to shop all recyclables to the same location, instead of finding another location to ship the e-waste. This enables us to co-mingle recyclables in a trailer so minterials can be shipped out as they come in, instead of waiting until we have a trailer load of e-waste to ship.
However, this has necessitated some changes be made in the materials accepted and how they are sorted. Newspapers are the same - if it comes with the newspaper, it can recycle with the newspaper. All slick paper, magazines and slick advertisements from junk mail recycle together. Please don't bundle either the magazines or newspapers with string. It is easier for us if they are in brown paper bags or plastic bags. We can empty and recycle both types of bags. The office pack now includes mixed paper, computer paper, and envelopes, along with the junk mail that is not click. The chip board (cereal, cake mix and pop boxes) now go into the baler with the cardboard.
Steel cans and glass - clear, brown, blue and green - should be rinsed and drained as before. The labels are okay, but please sort the glass by color except that the blue and green can go together. Aluminum cans should also be rinsed, drained and flattened but we'll flatten them if you don't.
We'll take all the numbered plastics - #1 through #7. The #1's include the pop, juice, and water bottles. The #2's are separated so the translucent ones, such as milk jugs and those of similar appearance, go together, while the colored ones, such as liquid detergent and Clorox bottles, coffee contqainers and some frozen meat containers go into a separated gaylord. The #3 through 7 plastics can be mixed together. All plastics should be rinsed and drained and the lids removed. Plastic bags that are numbered 2 or 4 can now be recycled. This will include grocery and Wal Mart bags as well as many of the black trash bags.
Additionally, we'll take all rechargeable batteries including auto and mower batteries. The smaller alkaline batters can be trashed as they are no longer recyclable. We'll also take packing materials such as plastic peanuts, air pockets, ect. There is an outlet for telephone books, paper backs and most hard back books. Bicycles and tricycles in any condition will be accepted and sent to correctional facilities for reconlitioning and subsequent return to those who need them in the various communities.
E-waste includes computers, monitors, printers, small kitchen appliances and TV's. However, there will be a charge for any that have CRT screens, such as the computers and TV's.  Since we must pay to recycle them. there will be a charge for items with CRT screens that will range from $10 to $35, depending on the size.
There are a number of materials we do not accept. This includes Styrofoam of any sort, light bulbs, ceramics, oxidized (yellowed) or wet newspapers or magazines, plastics without a number, dirty materials and trash. Please don't bring such items to the Recycle Center. Still uncertain about what to bring and how to sort? Come and help us monitor at the Center for an hour or two and you'll quickly learn how - and why sorting is important. Our hours remain the same - 7:30 - 1:00 on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month and 9 and 11 on the third Saturday of the month. Come check us out!
